Why We Fundraise at CNHC

Community Nurse and Hospice Care, Fairhaven, MA
In 1993, Community Nurse & Hospice Care established our hospice program. Our goal was to meet the needs of community members needing more than our visiting nurse program could provide. Hospice at CNHC provides physical, emotional and spiritual support to patients and families experiencing terminal illness and grief. As you may know, hospice is chosen when curative treatment is no longer an option and the goal of care becomes comfort and quality at the end of life.

Managing our Hospice program is financially challenging and require a lot of hard work form our Development Team and Hospice Team. Many do not know that the average reimbursement for hospice is $145/day and that this money is to cover many services provided. For example, a patient could require in one day a nursing visit, a home health aide visit, a social work visit and a volunteer visit. Additionally, all medications and durable medical equipment (such as a hospital bed) related to ther terminal illness is also part of the cost we incur for that day. As you can imagine, the community needs our help to provide these services beyond what is covered by insurance.

Join the Friends of CNHC

In 2004, we formed the Friends of Community Nurse & Hospice Care. The Friends are a group of concerned citizens devoted to supporting our agency so that we can provide home health care to community members who have limited or no insurance. The only prerequisite for being a Friend is to have a genuine interest in the care that we provide in the community.

We welcome your interest and your membership. The Friends of Community Nurse & Hospice Care receive news about the agency, general health information, and an invitation to our Annual Friends Breakfast. Friends are encouraged to share their ideas or help with any fundraising activities at the agency.

Please consider joining the Friends of Community Nurse & Hospice Care. Your donation will help cover the cost of caring for our less fortunate community members. Please call Jennifer Fagan at 508-992-6278 for more information.

Please note that we accept major credit cards for your donations or gifts. Thank you!

Memorial Gifts

Community Nurse & Hospice Care is dependent on donations to support our hospice program. As you may imagine, terminal illness is challenging to both patients and their families. Our agency is committed to not only providing medical care, comfort and dignity to patients, but also to offsetting the financial burden that families may endure.

Our goal is for no patient to be left without needed care because of insurance or financial constraints. We are grateful to concerned community members that encourage family and friends to make a gift to our agency in memory of their loved one.

To inquire about memorial gifts, contact Jennifer Fagan, Director of Development, at 508-992-6278 or by email at jfagan@communitynurse.com

Memorial Brick Walkway

Our garden is coming along! In 2004 we began building a Memorial Garden at our main office at 62 Center Street in Fairhaven. Donors who contribute $500 or more to CNHC will receive a brick in our Memorial Garden. Bricks can be given in honor of or in memory of a loved one, to pay tribute to our agency or a staff member, for a company or civic group or yourself.

This program allows us to recognize from 1997 forward, friends of CNHC who generously contributed $500 or more to the agency. Contributions help to offset care that insurers do not cover and enable us to maintain the high standards we committed to 88 years ago. We are confident that the Brick Walkway in our Memorial Garden will provide donors with lifetime gift option of honor.
